Andrea (Andi) Thode
Biography
Dr. Andrea (Andi) Thode grew up in northern New Mexico, USA, surrounded by mountains that have now been burned in multiple wildfires. She completed her B.S. (1996) and later her Ph.D. (2005) in fire ecology through the Ecology Graduate Group at the University of California, Davis. After working for six years with the U.S. Forest Service, she started her work at Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 2005, where she is currently a professor of fire ecology and management at the School of Forestry. Her research focuses on fire effects, landscape-level fire severity, fire and climate interactions, and post-fire resilience. She was a founding board member of the Association for Fire Ecology (AFE) and has been the lead for the Southwest Fire Science Consortium since 2009. Recently, Dr. Thode has shifted her focus from the mountains to the deserts, where fire regimes have shifted severely. It turns out that two of the plants responsible for that shift are from South Africa.
