Rosa Maria Canals
Biography
Prof. Rosa Maria Canals is Professor of Grassland Science and Ecosystem Restoration at the Public University of Navarre (Spain). Her research has focused on the ecology and management of open ecosystems, with particular emphasis on those found across Europe’s mountain regions, which are undergoing rapid environmental and socio-economic change. By investigating the historical roles of herbivory and fire as key ecological disturbances, her work has advanced our understanding of the processes that shape biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and landscape resilience. Ultimately, her research aims to provide the knowledge needed to conserve these highly valued landscapes and to design more resilient territories in the face of climate change, rural abandonment and increasingly severe wildfires.
