The University of Extremadura (UEX) funded in 1973 is the most important public high education entity of the Autonomous Region of Extremadura, Spain. It is composed by 4 campuses (Cáceres, Badajoz, Mérida and Plasencia) and 19 faculties that host about 20,000 students every year. Their staffs are formed by about 3,000 workers including professors, researchers, administration and services. The UEX also includes facilities for its Research Institutes and leisure activities.
The Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (Facultad de Filosofía y Letras in Spanish) hosts above 500 international students every year (Erasmus, Latin America, etc.). It is based in the city of Cáceres whose Old Town of Renaissance style is recognized as UNESCO Heritage Site since 1986. In addition, it has been a strategical place in which several movies and series such as Game of Thrones have been shot. The faculty is very well-connected to the city centre by bus (Line C).
The city of Cáceres is a consolidated tourism destination where the tourism offer is quite wide. The city offers loads of opportunities for accommodation in form of hotels, apartments, B&B, etc. and places for eating and entertainment with a wide variety of prices and services. Furthermore, Cáceres is the second city of Extremadura located at 75 km of the Roman City of Mérida (former capital of Lusitania), at 120 km of the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe (14th century) and at 70 km of the Monfragüe National Park (a sanctuary for birdwatching lovers).
